What's Up With Cycle Oregon?

It's true - our cycle-riding friends are coming back to Union in September.  They will be coming into town on Sunday, September 7th, and they will be spending the night at the Bobcat Athletic Complex.  There will a stage and a beer garden set up at the old Mill Site.

The following groups have agreed to manage the community committees:

Main stage setup and teardown - Union HS FFA

Beer Garden setup and teardown - Union HS Science Class

Dining table & chair setup and teardown - FFA Alumni

Trash - Union HS FFA

Baggage Load and Unload - Union HS Football Team

Food Service - will be split up between the Freshman, Sophmore, Junior and Senior classes at Union High school

Entertainment - Mark Stratton

Community activities and Community Market - Nadine Rodman & Val Decker

Finish line decorations & theme - Sandra Patterson/City of Union

Welcome Committee - Union HS Girl's Volleyball - Mendy Clark

Centerpieces for dining tables - Grassroots

Community Coordinator - Debbie Clark

The following are activities that will be organized by various groups, but there is still room for your group to participate!

Fresh towels - Union HS Cheerleaders

Cell phone charging - Union HS FFA

FFA Alumni will look into hot tubs

Special Transportation - FFA and FFA Alumni

Local craftsmen and vendors will be invited to participate in a community market that will be in the center of town this time, most likely in the park or near by.

Local groups and organizations are invited to participate.  We have several fund raising opportunities available for those who want to make some money for their groups.

  • We need groups to volunteer to make desserts for the cyclist's dinner on the evening of Sept. 7th.  We need 2500 servings.  Your group can make any portion of that amount and you will be paid $1.50 per serving.  So, if your group makes a sheet cake decorated with bicycles and that cake serves 20 people, you would get $30 for the cake.  Interested?  Contact Debbie 910-3695

  • We need groups to set up booths for the community market.  Does your group make kettle corn or fudge?  Would you like to sell handmade crafts?  How about one of those photo booths where you dress up like a cowboy and get a picture taken?  The Cycle Oregon folks spend money on momentos and local crafts - and LOTS on food! Call Nadine 562-5425

  • The cyclists love our historic buildings and they love the whole cowboys, horses and western theme.  If your group wants to do an historic tour, or host a farrier demonstration with horseshoe art souveniers for sale or anything along that line, it would be a big hit.

You can e-mail me at debacla@eoni.com to get more information or to let us know that you want to participate.
